AUTHOR’S SCOТТISH LAUNCH
LAST WEEK WE HELD THE SCOTTISH LAUNCH FOR AUTHOR AT CUSTOM LANE, AN ART GALLERY IN EDINBURGH.
There was a buzz in the early evening air as guests and makers made their way through the charming, fairy-light strewn cobbled lane and into the venue. The fabulous Custom Lane staff welcomed each guest, taking their coat, giving them in return our vintage hardback book giveaway containing a bookmark sharing the details on the exhibition they were about to view.
With a bespoke AUTHOR gin cocktail in hand, canapés and the live DJ playing the smooth sounds of Duke Ellington through his original 1920’s gramophone, the atmosphere was set for guests to peruse through the different room schemes inspired by AUTHOR’s various collections. They also had a preview of many new pieces which will soon be unveiled in our new online collections. Jane and the AUTHOR team were on hand to introduce guests to each exquisite piece and share its story.
Many of AUTHOR’s makers took the opportunity to celebrate the launch with us and were on hand to share with guests their stories behind some of their pieces. Furniture maker, David Watson spoke about his Govan Executive Desk that was shown in our Winston collection whilst Namon Gaston was in attendance to discuss the new finish on his Oxbow Chair. His Wu Bench was a favourite amongst guests.
AS WELL AS PIECES OF FURNITURE, WE DISPLAYED A SELECTION OF OBJECTS AND ACCESSORIES, INCLUDING A NEW RANGE OF SOME WONDERFUL AND PERFECT SILVER AND TABLEWARE.
We were excited to display many pieces from new makers in the AUTHOR fold. From wallpaper to sculpture, lighting to leatherwork, our display was a true testament to the highest quality that is British craftsmanship and furniture making.
In addition to sourcing beautiful furniture, furnishings and accessories from contemporary British artists and makers, AUTHOR also designs and commissions our own exclusive range of high-quality pieces. From this very special AUTHOR’s Own collection we showcased the Wilf and Charterhouse chairs, with an antique Victorian drinks cabinet nestled cosily between them. As these pieces are created to be heirloom items, we enjoy styling these contemporary and timeless designs with antique heirlooms. Guests were also able to preview AUTHOR’s Own new Tusk Wall Light in its metal and leather finishes as well as a stunning floor standing mirror that will be seen on our website soon in our new collections.
Here at AUTHOR, we like to curate the exquisite furniture that we have sourced from our makers, we even curate certain pieces by the designer that are exclusive to us. However, when we cannot find the perfect item we are looking for, we try to realise the design ourselves to create our own original AUTHOR piece. Collaborating with local makers is important to us and we strive to make a wonderful new item that will be cherished for a lifetime.
THE PINK GIN AND CONVERSATION FLOWED WELL INTO THE NIGHT, ADDING TO THE CELEBRATORY AMBIANCE, ENCOURAGING NEW FRIENDSHIPS AND CEMENTING OLD.
It was a wonderful evening and we were delighted to show guests our exclusive and stunning range of British made furniture and interior pieces. There was a real enthusiasm to be able to touch and feel the objects on display and an overwhelming appreciation for what AUTHOR stands for, its vision and drive to create responsible luxury. We are proud of our makers who create exquisite interior pieces with attention to detail and sustainable means, all here in the British Isles.
We are thoroughly looking forward to hosting another exhibition with fresh and exciting designs on display. If you do have any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us, at AUTHOR we all love to talk about design. Do stay connected with us through our social media channels and our e-magazine for news, interviews, articles and information on future events.
